Big V is excited to announce the Division One Men and Women’s fixture for the 2025 season.
The Division One competition grew with excitement in 2024 with improvement in both, the men and women’s competitions. Much like the Championship fixture, considerations were taken when constructing the fixture such as association requests for rivalry games, hosting feature rounds, double headers and more. League management will continue to work with all 19 teams to create a competitive 2025 Big V season.
Unlike the 2024 season, Division One Women will consist of 9 teams battling it out for the Championship. Chelsea returns to the competition as the runners up while we see several new teams join the already tough Division One competition. Camberwell have returned from Championship Women, looking to rebuild while Melbourne University have won their way into Division One, taking out the Division Two Championship in 2024. We also welcome back Whittlesea’s women in 2025 after a short time away from the league. In the Men, Gippsland United look to be the team to go one step further with the return of import Jalin Wimberly. Whilst Craigieburn, after a nail-biting Grand Final in Division Two, find themselves promoted into Division One. Western Port’s men also join their Women’s side in Division One after several years in Championship Men.
The Division One competition is set to begin with Opening Round on the 22nd of March and will continue until the final round on the weekend of the 26th of July. As we look to opening round, we already see a jam-packed weekend with Mildura and Craigieburn’s Women leading the way hosting Collingwood and Melbourne University. In the Men, you don’t need to look further to see some of 2024’s best Division One games as Gippsland United play host to Whittlesea on what will be a thriller in Opening Round.
Look to round three where Mildura’s Women hit the road to their first double header away, facing Camberwell on Saturday then the returning Whittlesea on the Sunday. You also find a very exciting double header down at Somerville Recreation Centre as Western Port play host to Chelsea’s Men and Women in what will be a massive Saturday Night. After Chelsea’s Women fell ever so short in the 2024 season, look for this group set the tone early in first few rounds as they hope to make a return to the Grand Final stage.
Featured Rounds are always a highlight on the Big V Calander with many associations getting involved. Altona continues to be one of these amazing associations as their senior teams will host a double header in Pink Round, round nine of the 2025 season. Suiting up in the pink uniform, Altona won’t be the only team as Western Port and Warrnambool’s men and women will change out for the pink uniforms also hosting in Pink Round. See below the dates for Division One’s featured Round for the 2025 season.
Anzac Round will tip off from the 26th April. The annual Pink Round will make a return in 2025, scheduled the weekend of May 24/25, in efforts to raise money for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA). International Pride month will be in June across the entirety of Basketball Victoria and several associations will be hosting Pride games throughout the month to recognise inclusiveness. First Nations Round will begin on the weekend of July 5th in an aim to celebrate our firsts people, coinciding with NAIDOC week.
Mental Health Round will also take place in round 16 and is purely dedicated to raising awareness and promoting conversations around mental health. All associations and clubs have the opportunity to be part of this weekend.
With returning talent, new players and teams entering the competition, this season is set to be extremely competitive in both men and women.
