Basketball Victoria (BV) has been officially awarded a licence to enter a men’s team in the National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL), marking an exciting new chapter for the state’s high-performance and inclusion pathways. This strategic expansion elevates Victoria’s presence on the national stage and capitalises on the momentum created by the Victoria Wonders women’s team, following their successful inaugural season in 2025.
The introduction of a men’s NWBL team reflects Basketball Victoria’s long-standing commitment to providing inclusive, elite opportunities for athletes with disability. It also reinforces the organisation’s broader vision to develop world-class pathways for wheelchair athletes, coaches, and officials across the state.
The men’s team will join a respected national competition that continues to grow in profile and professionalism. Their entry will enable Victorian wheelchair athletes another opportunity to compete at the highest level, strengthening talent development and ensuring the state remains a leading contributor to Australia’s national teams.
This announcement signals an important and inspiring step forward. Basketball Victoria will be represented on both the men’s and women’s national wheelchair stages, showcasing the depth, passion, and potential of the state’s wheelchair basketball community.
We will be announcing more information about the team, including; coaching appointments, trials and competition details in the coming months.
