Congratulations to the ten Victorian basketball community members selected by Basketball Australia to participate in the inaugural She Hoops Leadership and Confidence Scholarship.
The scholarship brings together 31 aspiring leaders from across the states and territories to deliver a blend of basketball, mentorship, and life skills development. The participants will attend a 3-day camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, receive their community and club coaching accreditation, participate in an introduction to officiating course, and attend five online sessions with EQ Minds which focus on mindfulness, resilience, leadership and confidence. Additionally, each participant will be paired up with a current WNBL player who will act as a mentor over the course of the program.
When launching the program, Head of Women in Basketball Lauren Jackson said that working with young women in basketball is her passion.
“To be able to provide scholarships has been the ultimate dream, I know what these girls are capable of and now they have an incredible opportunity to become the leaders of the future” Jackson said.
The application process was highly competitive, with over 100 applications received from around the country. Riley McBrien was delighted to have her application accepted into the program.
“I want to take part in this program to help educate myself on the opportunities that basketball has to present outside of playing and I believe with She Hoops guidance I can hopefully stay involved in basketball for many more years to come.” Riley said.
Congratulations to the successful Victorian applicants.
