Recently, Basketball Victoria hosted its annual League Technical Officials Action Days through two dedicated sessions that attracted nearly 400 officials. Referees and referee coaches located throughout the state of Victoria - including officials from the VJBL, Big V, and NBL1 South panels - came together to refine their skills and align on the upcoming season's expectations.
The first event, held on February 2, 2025 in the Eastern suburbs in collaboration with Knox Basketball, featured comprehensive sessions on play calling, self-reflection, FIBA rule changes, on-court presentation and mechanics, and yearly fitness testing. This session was designed to ensure that officials are well-prepared and fully informed as the season approaches.
The second session took place on February 23, 2025, in Western Melbourne, in partnership with Wyndham Basketball and Thomas Carr College. This day provided similar in-depth training, emphasising the same key topics to guarantee that all officials receive the critical insights needed to navigate our evolving elite leagues environment.
“We believe these annual action days are essential for establishing clear expectations and ensuring that our officials are fully prepared for the challenges of the new season,” said Jo Chu, General Manager of Technical Officials, Basketball Victoria. “By providing these targeted sessions, we support the development and consistency of officiating standards across our diverse elite leagues.”
Initiatives like this demonstrates Basketball Victoria's commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in basketball officiating now and for the future success of our sport.
